Section 60I Certificate
The Mediators at The Dispute Resolution Space are authorised by the Attorney General’s Department to issue section 60I Certificates.
A section 60I Certificate is the document usually needed to commence parenting proceedings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
There are five types of section 60I Certificates that can be issued. These include a certificate stating:
- You did not attend mediation due to the refusal or failure of the other person to attend.
- You did not attend mediation because the mediator did not consider it would be appropriate to conduct Family Dispute Resolution.
- You did attend mediation, and all participants made a genuine effort to resolve the issues in dispute.
- You did attend mediation but one or more of the participants did not make a genuine effort to resolve the issues in dispute.
- You started mediation, but part-way through, the mediator decided it was not appropriate to continue.
For many of our clients, mediation is successful and a section 60I Certificate is therefore not required. However, in other circumstances, The Dispute Resolution Space can work with you to ensure your matter is assessed promptly and a s60I Certificate issued without delay.
