What is Mediation?

Mediation is a structured negotiation process in which an independent person, known as a mediator, assists the parties to identify and assess options and negotiate an agreement to resolve their dispute.  Mediation is an alternative to proceeding to Court, and for that reason it can save parties a lot of time, stress, uncertainty and money.

Family Dispute Resolution is a specialist form of mediation for parenting matters.  It is process that helps parties come to their own agreed arrangement for parenting their children.  In most cases, Family Dispute Resolution is a compulsory step parties must take before proceeding to Court.
